JOSEPH CAMPANELLA CLEARY (Making Matters, page 78) is a US luthier based in Burlington, VT, US, specialising in violins and mandolins. His work is influenced by the geometric studies of François Denis, whose treatise he used to redesign the mandolin family in the violin vernacular.
RAPHAEL GOLD (American bow makers, page 46) is a lead associate at Ifshin Violins, in California. He is a professional violist, including a seven-year stint with the Yucatán State Symphony Orchestra in Mexico. He holds a masters degree in history from the University of Chicago.
DAVID KIM (Technique, page 86) has been concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra since 1999. He has the same role in the All-Star Orchestra and is professor of violin studies at Cairn University, PA, US, where he is also artistic director of the David Kim Orchestral Institute.
ANTOINE NÉDÉLEC (Trade Secrets, page 72) is the director of the Chicago School of Violin Making. He worked for Peter Prier and Sons while attending the Violin Making School of America, and for J&A Beare on graduating. He opened his own studio in 2005 and served as a judge at the Violin Society of America Competition in 2018.
LAURINEL OWEN (Postcard from Banff, page 26) is a cellist and has written more than 100 articles for The Strad. She directs a chamber music series in Long Island, NY, US, and owns a violin shop called House of Strings.
RICHARD WARD (In Focus, page 69) has written extensively on topics relating to stringed instruments for the past 25 years. After graduating from Indiana University he worked in photography-related fields. He has been associated with Ifshin Violins in California since 1990.
