‘Musical segregation’: Nigel Kennedy pulls out of Classic FM concert bit.ly/3ue8mYG
UK violinist Nigel Kennedy cancelled an appearance at a Classic FM Live concert on 22 September, alleging the station asked him to perform Vivaldi rather than the Jimi Hendrix tribute he had planned. Calling the decision ‘musical segregation’, he told the Guardian: ‘If [the decision] was applied to people, it would be illegal. If that type of mentality is rampant in the arts, then we still haven’t fixed the problem of prejudice [...] They’re effectively saying that Hendrix is all right in the Marquee Club, but not in the Albert Hall.’

This marks the first time that the three ensembles – the Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique – will have a base in the UK capital.
