is a professor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and a tutor for the Benedetti Foundation. Alongside a busy teaching schedule, she leads an active performing career as both a soloist and a chamber musician.

GARETH BALLARD

is a luthier based at Ballard Violins in central London. His focus is authentically reproducing the constructional shape of Cremonese arching using a new method that he has developed. He graduated in music and worked as a professional musician and composer in the early part of his career.

IAN McWILLIAMS

(Making Matters, page 68)

graduated as a luthier from West Dean College, UK, in 2005. He worked for three years at J.P. Guivier in London and then spent two years with Frédéric Chaudière in Montpellier. Since 2010 he has had his own workshop in Brandenburg an der Havel, just west of Berlin, Germany.

PEDRO DE ALCANTARA

is a musician, writer and teacher. His books include The Integrated String Player: Embodied Vibration and Integrated Practice: Coordination, Rhythm & Sound. From 2015 to 2019 he was visiting professor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow.

RUDOLF PILSEL

(Trade Secrets, page 62) 

is a violin, viola, cello and bow maker based in Crewe, UK. He made his first instrument under the tutelage of Nottingham-based luthier Wilfred Saunders in 1973. Since then he has produced well over a hundred instruments and innumerable bows for professionals, students and amateurs.
