LIONNEL GENOVART (In Focus, page 59) has been a maker and restorer of violins, violas, cellos and bows since 1997. Based in Rome, he also researches the history of violin making in Argentina and is a professor on the IberOrquestas teaching programme, which operates across Latin America.
PETKO PETKOV (Trade Secrets, page 62) is a master violin maker located in Kazanlak, Bulgaria, situated in the heart of the Rose Valley. He has been dedicated to the art of violin making since 1999, handcrafting violins, violas and cellos. He is also a member of the governing board of the Bulgarian Luthiers Association.
ALEXANDRA GORSKI (Opinion, page 21) is a Ukrainian–American violinist, teacher and writer. She is the associate concertmaster of the Sofia Philharmonic, member of the Classic FM Radio Orchestra and a principal member of recording groups The Sofia Session Orchestra and Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra.
WOLFGANG SCHIELE (Making Matters, page 68) is a Munich-based violin maker. He trained in Mittenwald with stops in Besançon, Paris, New York and London, and now specialises in making new instruments. He is an enthusiastic amateur musician on the violin and viola.
JACK LIEBECK (Technique, page 78) is a British–German violinist. He is the first Émile Sauret professor of violin at London’s Royal Academy of Music and artistic director of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music. He plays the 1785 ‘Ex-Wilhelmj’ Guadagnini.
ARNOLD E. SCHNITZER (Double bass set-up, page 52) began maintaining and building instruments while working as a professional musician. He ran a busy and successful repair and sales business in New York for over 30 years and now concentrates on making new basses and cellos in New Mexico.
