RACHAEL DURKIN
(Books, page 93) is a senior lecturer in music at Northumbria University, UK. Her research focuses on the history of instruments and the relationship between music and literature. Her monograph on the history of the viola d’amore is now available from Routledge.
HAGIT GILI GLUSKA
(Violin making in Seoul, page 42) pursued a career in violin making after serving as a lawyer at the office of Israel’s State Attorney. After graduating from the Cremona Violin Making School she has worked both in Italy and Korea. She specialises in the making of violins, violas and cellos.
DAVID HAYS
(Paul Makanowitzky, page 36) is professor of music at Missouri State University and concertmaster of the Springfield Symphony. He is a graduate of Indiana University and Northwestern University. His album Lullaby and Nocturne is available for streaming and download.
MARTIN OUTRAM
(Technique, page 78) is Lionel Tertis professor of viola at London’s Royal Academy of Music. He is a member of the Maggini Quartet and is in regular demand as a jury member at major competitions. He has recorded more than 60 discs as a soloist and chamber musician.
ADRIAN SMITH
(Postcard from Dublin, page 24) is a lecturer in musicology at TU Dublin Conservatoire in Ireland. He frequently writes articles and reviews for a variety of publications.
