RAINER MICHAEL COCRON

(In Focus, page 85) studied the violin with Igor Ozim at the Salzburg Mozarteum. For the last decade he has been travelling the world to value and authenticate fine stringed instruments. In 2016 he joined Ingles & Hayday in London, UK, as a specialist and head of sales.

DAVID FOLLAND

(Making Matters, page 94) graduated from the Violin Making School of America in 1983. He has made more than 230 instruments and in 1996 achieved hors concours status at the Violin Society of America’s international making competition. He is based in Northfield, MN, US.

GEORGI NIKOLOV

(Trade Secrets, page 88) is a Bulgarian violin maker now based in Cremona, Italy. He is a graduate of the Cremona School of Violin Making and received a first prize for modern violin at the 2021 ANLAI Violin Making Competition in Pisogne.

ELOISE RIDDELL

(Books, page 125) is a freelance double bass player based in London, UK, who plays with a number of leading orchestras. She teaches at Junior Guildhall, Kensington Preparatory School and privately, and directs the London Basses double bass workshops.

DMITRY TARAKANOV

(Dealing with a buzz, page 78) studied lutherie at the Violin Making School of America. He combines a scientific approach to violin making with traditional aesthetics. He gives lectures on violin making and acoustics to everyone from schoolchildren to professional musicians.

BILLY TOBENKIN

(Adult learners on the cello, page 42) started studying the cello at the age of 25. In 2013 he completed his second bachelor’s degree in cello performance, and today he specialises in helping adults who, like him, found the cello later in life. His most influential teachers include Ronald Leonard and Hans Jørgen Jensen.
