Australian violist Henry Justo (below) has won the 2023 Freedman Classical Fellowship and AUD21,000 (£11,000). The final results were announced on
15 October. He is studying for a master’s at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover, Germany, and will put the prize towards his project ‘Connect’, a curated installation piece that explores the human need for connection in relation to where we are in the world.
Museo del Violino dedicates room to Simone Sacconi bit.ly/3s27XMiThe Museo del Violino in Cremona, Italy, has dedicated a room in the museum to luthier Simone Fernando Sacconi. The dedication was part of a series of events marking 50 years since the death of the influential violin maker and scholar, who passed away on 26 June 1973 aged 78. The dedication also marked the conclusion of an exhibition devoted to Sacconi’s life and work, which has run since June.
La Nuova Musica appoints new leader bit.ly/46YK5IcUK ensemble La Nuova Musica has announced the appointment of Jane Gordon as its new leader. The group, founded and directed by David Bates, performs works across the Baroque and Classical periods, as well as new commissions. Gordon has forged a career focusing on period instrument performance and incorporates solo recitals, chamber music, orchestral leading and directing orchestras from the violin.
