Tabea Zimmermann appointed to German Music Council bit.ly/3ukD1aNThe German Music Council (DMR) has announced violist Tabea Zimmermann as an honorary member. The council’s highest award honours Zimmermann’s ’passionate and tireless commitment to musical life’. With her appointment, there are now 49 honorary members of the German Music Council, eight of whom are women.
Nippon Music Foundation announces three Stradivari loans bit.ly/46mFA9yThe Nippon Music Foundation has announced three new beneficiaries of its instrument loan scheme. Italian violinist Giuseppe Gibboni has been loaned the 1722 ‘Jupiter’ Stradivari violin; Japanese violinist Risa Hokamura has received the 1715 ‘Joachim’ Stradivari; and Rino Yoshimoto has been given the 1736 ‘Muntz’ Stradivari. All the instrument loans are for a minimum of two years. The foundation owns 21 instruments by Stradivari and Guarneri ’del Gesù’.
Violinist jailed for attempted murder with rat poison bit.ly/3SRyruOA 62-year-old violinist with the Schleswig Holstein Symphony Orchestra was sentenced to six and a half years in prison on 23 October 2023 for attempting to murder his mother and two colleagues with rat poison. According to the indictment, he had mixed the poison into his 93-yearold mother’s food at a retirement home in Hanover in early September 2022. On a concert tour, he is said to have given the two orchestra members a garlic dip mixed with the poison brodifacoum.
