FELIPE AVELLAR DE AQUINO

(Villa-Lobos and the cello, page 36) is a cellist and professor at the Federal University of Paraíba–UFPB in Brazil. He has performed in Brazil, Argentina, Canada, Italy and the US, and directs the annual UFPB International Chamber Music Festival. He has a doctoral degree in cello performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music.

PAOLO BODINI

(Making Matters, page 66) was chief of the department of internal medicine at Cremona General Hospital. He became interested in violin making while serving as mayor of Cremona (1999–2004). In 2006 he established the Stradivari Foundation and now sits on the board of trustees of the city’s Museo del Violino.

JAMES DICKENSON

(Opinion, page 21) studied in the UK and the USA with many great pedagogues. He is a violin soloist, teacher and veteran of the Degas and Villiers quartets. Recent recordings include two CDs of Spohr duos for Naxos.

ULRICH HINSBERGER

(Trade Secrets, page 60) is an award-winning violin maker based in Biberach, Germany. His main focus is on making new instruments inspired by the Italian tradition but created with innovative techniques. He is supported by his Belgian assistant Maarten De Keukeleire.
