1. The Balourdet, Lydian, Lyris and Parker string quartets, all based in the US, are among the twelve recipients of Chamber Music America’s Classical Commissioning grants. A total fund of $209,900 was divided between the twelve groups. The programme supports US composers by funding ensembles to commission and perform contemporary music. Each grant recipient will commission a new work in the near future.

2. Australian Baroque violinist Elizabeth Wallfisch has won the 2021 Georg Philipp Telemann Award. The prize includes a bronze plaque, a certificate and a €2,500 grant. Wallfisch performed with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra at the 17 September ceremony in Telemann’s home town of Magdeburg. The awarding committee praised her for ‘bringing out the compositional breadth and varied structures’ of the composer’s works.

3. US–German violinist Augustin Hadelich and Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrández have received the Opus Klassik instrumentalist and young artist prizes respectively. Hadelich was nominated for his recent release of Bohemian Tales and Ferrández for his album Reflections. The award ceremony takes place on 10 October at the Berlin Konzerthaus. The prize celebrates the achievements ofclassical musicians in Germany.

4. German violinist David Garrett has been named one of the recipients of the 2021 European Culture Prize. The award was created in 2011 by the European Cultural Foundation Pro Europa and celebrates the successes of individuals who unite the arts, education and business in Europe. The award ceremony took place on 28 August in Bonn, Germany.
