Ray Chen acquires Stradivari violin bit.ly/3Bod4af
Violinist Ray Chen (left) has acquired the 1714 ’Dolphin, ex-Heifetz’ Stradivari violin, courtesy of the Nippon Music Foundation. ‘This instrument and I are going to be musical partners for the next few years,’ he commented. Chen has previously played on the 1715 ‘Joachim’ Stradivari violin, also on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.

A 14-year-old leukaemia patient from Idaho, US, has been granted her wish to receive a cello and a year’s worth of lessons through the charity Make-A-Wish. Bethany was diagnosed in March 2022 and will undergo two years of chemotherapy and treatment. Her mother said that the cello has ‘brought Bethany hope for a brighter future’. It is her hope that these lessons will provide her with something positive to focus on while she is undergoing treatment.
ProMusica Chamber Orchestra receives $1 million donation bit.ly/3SatZnuThe ProMusica Chamber Orchestra has received an anonymous $1 million donation, the largest gift in the Ohio-based ensemble’s 44-year history. Part of the gift will be put towards the purchase of a violin for the orchestra’s concertmaster, Katherine McLin, who has been playing a loaned 1734 Santo Serafin for the past 20 years. McLin is currently undergoing a search for the right instrument, in consultation with the orchestra’s music director David Danzmayr and ProMusica’s creative partner, violinist Vadim Gluzman.
