ANDREW CARRUTHERS
(Making Matters, page 70) attended the Welsh School of Violin Making and Repair, and then worked at Bein & Fushi in Chicago before opening his workshop in California in 1996. Since 2015 all of his work has been devoted to building new instruments.
OSKAR FALTA
(Natalia Shakhovskaya, page 40) studied at London’s Royal Academy of Music, and earned his doctorate at the University of British Columbia in 2019. He now teaches cello at the Musikschule der Stadt Ulm in Germany.
LIONNEL GENOVART
(Lutherie in Argentina, page 34) has been a maker and restorer of violin, violas, cellos and bows since 1997. Based in Rome, he also researches the history of violin making in Argentina and is a lutherie professor on the IberOrquestas teaching programme, which operates across Latin America.
ALBERTO GIORDANO
(In Focus, page 61; Books, page 93) is a violin maker based in Genoa, Italy, and assistant curator of the Guarneri ‘del Gesù’ violin known as ‘Il Cannone’. He is also a historian of Italian lutherie and graduated with a masters degree in history of art from the University of Genoa.
SETH PARKER WOODS
(Technique, page 78) is a Grammy-nominated cellist, known for his innovative programming that propels the industry ‘beyond classical confines’ (New York Times). He serves on the faculty of the USC Thornton School of Music, CA, US, as assistant professor of practice: cello and chamber music.
IRIS ZHULLA
(Trade Secrets, page 64) is a Greek second-generation violin and bow maker. She graduated from the Cremona International Violin Making School in 2012 and worked in Cremona and Milan before returning to Greece. She is now based in Thessaloniki, where she enjoys restoration and making new violins and bows.
