Chaos Quartet among BBC’s 2023 New Generation Artists bit.ly/3qWt3upThe Chaos Quartet, comprising violinists Susanne Schäffer and Eszter Kruchió, violist Sara Marzadori and cellist Bas Jongen, are the only string players to be named BBC New Generation Artists for 2023. They join Colombian cellist Santiago Cañón-Valencia, New Zealand violinist Geneva Lewis and the Leonkoro Quartet on the talent development scheme, beginning in September 2023 and ending in December 2025.
Midori takes up artistic director role at Ravinia Steans Music

Japanese-born American violinist Midori (left) has been named artistic director of the Ravinia Steans Music Institute’s piano and strings programme. She will take up her new role in the autumn of 2023 to begin overseeing the 2024 summer season. Midori succeeds Miriam Fried, who has held the position since 1994. The programme concentrates on interpretation and small-group collaboration through the practice and performance of classical sonata and chamber repertoire.

The institution recognised her for her work with Manchester Collective, of which she is co-founder and musical director, in creating and bringing bold and innovative new works to audiences. The titles celebrate people who serve their community through exceptional work in the arts.
