1 Ukrainian violinist Bohdan Luts, 19, has won first prize and €35,000 at the Long-Thibaud International Competition in Paris. He also won the audience prize, press jury prize and the prize of the French Republican Guard Orchestra. Luts is a student of the International Menuhin Music Academy. Second prize and €20,000 went to South Korean violinist Dayoon You, 22, while the €12,000 third prize went to 18-year-old Japanese violinist Koshiro Takeuchi.

2 Czech cellist Vilém Vlček, 25, has received the PLN80,000 (£16,000) first prize at the International Krzysztof Penderecki Cello Competition in Kraków, Poland, as well as the prize for the best concerto performance. He is currently studying at the Basel Academy of Music in Switzerland. Second prize of PLN20,000 went to 19-year-old South Korean cellist Sang Hyeok Park, while the third prize of PLN20,000 was awarded to Italian cellist Maria Salvatori, also 19.

3 Trio Basilea has won first prize at the Swiss Chamber Music Competition in Lucerne, Switzerland, receiving CHF5,000 (£4,500) and the opportunity to commission a work. The trio comprises French violinist Laurențiu Stoian, 21, Brazilian cellist Marina Martins, 24, and Swiss pianist Zofia Grzelak, 25. Trio Zarathoustra took the second prize of CHF3,000, and third prize of CHF2,000 went to Trio Archai.

4 Polish violinist Karolina Podorska, 24, has won the inaugural Karol Lipiński International Violin Competition in Wrocław, Poland, winning PLN18,000 (£3,600) and further performance engagements. The PLN12,000 second prize was awarded to Polish violinist Barbara Żołnierczyk, 23, and third prize of PLN8,000 went to Polish violinist Milena Pioruńska, 18.
