1 South Korean violinist Do Gyung (Anna) Im, 25, has been awarded first prize at the Stuttgart International Violin Competition in Stuttgart, Germany, receiving €30,000, the loan of a 1746 Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin, and concert engagements. Second prize of €15,000 was awarded to violinist Ruslan Talas from Kazakhstan, 25, and third prize of €10,000 went to US violinist Matthew Hakkarainen, 23.

2 Dutch violinist Salomé Bonnema, 22, has won the Netherlands Violin Competition in Utrecht, Netherlands, receiving the €12,000 Oskar Back prize. Second prize of €6,000 went to Dutch violinist Kira van der Woerd, 18, along with the €1,500 prize for the best performance of the commissioned work, while third prize of €4,000 and the audience award of €1,000 went to Dutch violinist Enzo Kok, 21.

3 British viola da gamba player Liam Byrne has been awarded the Glenn Gould Bach Fellowship of €70,000. The fellowship is awarded every two years by the city of Weimar to selected musicians to realise ambitious musical media projects on the music of Bach and the Baroque period. Byrne’s project will focus on the rare music of the English lyra viol repertoire from the early 17th century.

4 Russian cellist Anastasia Kobekina, 29, has been selected for the 2024 Leonard Bernstein Award of €10,000 by the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in Germany. The award recognises young musical talent, and has been previously won by violinists Erik Schumann, Charles Yang and David Aaron Carpenter, and cellists Alisa Weilerstein, Leonard Elschenbroich and Kian Soltani.

• German violist Florian Richter has been appointed viola professor at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar

• Chinese cellist Sihao He is joining the Tianjin Juilliard School’s cello faculty and the Shanghai Quartet

• Canadian cellist Matthew Christakos will become the New York Philharmonic’s new associate principal cellist
