Violinist Alexandra Tirsu loaned 1717 ‘Reifenberg’ Stradivari bit.ly/3U8qTTCThe Stradivari Society of Chicago has announced the loan of the 1717 ‘Reifenberg’ Antonio Stradivari violin to Moldovan violinist Alexandra Tirsu. The 31-yearold violinist (left) previously played on a 1699 Stradivari violin. The ‘Reifenberg’ has been played by a host of renowned violinists, including Jacques Thibaud, Nathan Milstein, Jaime Laredo and Salvatore Accardo. Most recently it has been in the hands of Dmitry Sitkovetsky.
Alexander Quartet announces retirement bit.ly/3U5Z1j1
The Alexander Quartet has announced its retirement after 44 years, following its final season in the spring of 2025. Now based in San Francisco, the quartet was established in New York in 1981 and currently comprises violinists Zakarias Grafilo and Yuna Lee, violist David Samuel and founding cellist Sandy Wilson. Among its final season highlights, the Alexander Quartet will perform at the Beethoven Easter Festival in Poland, and will conclude residences at the Mondavi Center, St Lawrence University and San Francisco Performances.
Violinist Meret Lüthi receives Golden Bow award bit.ly/3Q9unE0The Foundation of the Swiss Violin Making School in Brienz has announced Meret Lüthi as the recipient of its 2024 Golden Bow. Lüthi is a violinist and artistic director of the early music orchestra Les Passions de l’Âme. The jury praised Lüthi for sharing her inventiveness and captivating programmes with audiences since 2008.
