JOSEPH CURTIN
(Bass-bar acoustics, page 46) is a violin maker, researcher and 2005 MacArthur Fellow who builds violins and violas in a workshop near Ann Arbor, MI, US. He has written and lectured extensively on violin making, and co-directs the VSA–Oberlin Acoustics Workshop.
CLIFTON HARRISON
(Technique, page 78) is the violist of the Kreutzer Quartet and is also a specialist in early music. He studied at the Juilliard School in New York and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He gives masterclasses and lectures worldwide.
ANDREW JANSS
(Opinion, page 21) is the founding cellist of the Escher Quartet and a resident musician at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. He received a 2022 Emerson Collective Fellowship for his work producing virtual bedside concerts for hospital patients and composition courses for incarcerated individuals.
YURI POCHEKIN
(In Focus, page 59) is a Russian-born violin maker currently based in Madrid. He has made around 300 violins, violas and cellos, and has been a jury member on violin making competitions including the Wieniawski in Poznań and the Cremona ‘Triennale’ in Italy.
JASON PRICE
(Carlo Bergonzi ‘Salabue, Martzy’ violin, page 24) is the founder and director of Tarisio. Splitting his time between New York and London, he is responsible for authenticating the nearly 2,000 instruments and bows that Tarisio sells at auction per year.
JENELLE STEELE
(Trade Secrets, page 62) is the head bow restorer at the David Kerr Violin Shop in Portland, OR, US. She trained at the Violin Making School of America and learnt instrument and bow restoration in the workshop of Jerry Pasewicz at Triangle Strings. She plays cello in the Beaverton Symphony Orchestra.
