Cellist Sol Gabetta wins the Swiss Grand Prix de musique bit.ly/3WY0fzV
The Swiss Music Awards has announced cellist Sol Gabetta as the recipient of its Grand Prix de musique, worth CHF100,000 (£86,000). The award recognises important musicians in Switzerland and is given annually by the Swiss Federal Office of Culture. Gabetta (left) said the award would give her ‘more energy to carry out projects in Switzerland. Projects that can help the younger generation.’ Born in Argentina, Gabetta has been a Swiss citizen since 2018.
Unique wax cylinder recordings by Camillo Sivori identified bit.ly/4dUeP1h
A group of wax phonograph cylinder recordings held by the British Library contain probably the only playing of violinist Camillo Sivori, it has been revealed. The recordings had previously been attributed to German violinist August Wilhelmj, but US researcher Andrew Krastins has found that Sivori almost certainly recorded the cylinders in Genoa, possibly days before his death in 1894. ‘The only person presently known to have performed and have had access to the [unpublished] Sivori Second Violin Concerto was Sivori himself,’ said Krastins.

The Asian Hall of Fame has announced 23 inductees for its class of 2024 at the Celebrate Asia Festival. Among the inductees is violinist Anne Akiko Meyers. The class of 2024 will be honoured at the 20th induction ceremony on 19 October at the Biltmore Los Angeles and will stream live on Roku GAME.
