DOUBLE BASS ROSIN
Stuck in time
A new bass rosin that lasts longer
FEATURED PRODUCT
In 2010, Cecilia Rosin released its first double bass rosin, but recalled the product within a few months. ‘I wasn’t confident about it and didn’t want to ruin the company’s reputation,’ says maker Peter Bahng. After that, Bahng was approached by several bassists asking if he had a rosin in his range. In 2023 he finally embarked on research to develop a bass rosin again, which is now available.
‘The goal was to make a bass rosin that I felt confident sharing with those demanding musicians,’ he says, referring to the community of passionate bassists seeking their perfect formulas in a market that offers significantly fewer rosins for bass than for other stringed instruments. Given the wide spectrum of preferences, Bahng decided to make ‘softer’ and ‘firmer’ formulas. ‘The softer formula is for those seeking extra grip with a fuller tone – often orchestral players,’ he says. ‘The firmer is often appreciated by soloists, as it has a crisp and clear tone.’ Both can be used simultaneously.
One of the product’s main developments is its improved longevity, owing to a special ingredient. ‘When bass rosin dries out, which happens noticeably more quickly than with other rosins, it hardens because the chemical properties are altered, so you need an entirely new one,’ he says. He tested the bass rosin by keeping it outside without packaging for three months during winter; within an hour of bringing it back in, it had returned to its original state. The rosin comes in a custom air-sealed silicone container (also for longevity), as well as with a rosin spreader.
‘I think that with this rosin I successfully obtained the elements that Cecilia rosins are known for: outstanding sound quality and a unique bowing sensation,’ he adds. ‘I’m happy that these characteristics can now be experienced on the bass, and I hope people will like it!’

HUMIDITY CONTROL DEVICE
STAYING LEVEL
Bogaro & Clemente’s humidity control device both dehumidifies and humidifies an instrument case. Its micro-dehumidifier uses electrolysis to extract moisture from the air, while the ultrasonic water atomiser creates ultra-fine water mist when humidification is needed. It is powered by a rechargeable battery, has humidity and temperature sensors, and has Bluetooth and WiFi connections, enabling the humidity to be controlled from a smartphone.
