Spektral Quartet to disband after 2021/22 season bit.ly/3DaB1jY
The Chicago-based Spektral Quartet has announced that the 2021–22 season will be its last. The quartet, consisting of violinists Clara Lyon and Maeve Feinberg, violist Doyle Armbrust and cellist Russell Rolen, said: ‘Our paths are leading us in different directions. As one might imagine, the reasons for this are complex and numerous.’ The quartet’s most recent recording, Enigma, was given the accolade ‘The Strad Recommends’ in the magazine’s November 2021 issue.
Melbourne violinist awarded 2021 Freedman Classical

Violinist Kyla Matsuura-Miller (left) has been awarded The Music Trust’s 2021 Freedman Classical Fellowship, worth AU$21,000. The award will go towards Matsuura-Miller’s project championing new compositions by Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) Australian composers. ‘To be able to amplify new, unheard stories in classical music will hopefully leave a legacy for others to feel seen, heard and included in the Australian classical music scene,’ said Matsuura-Miller.
Griffon Quartet awarded Green Bay Packers Foundation Grant bit.ly/3EhylCDThe Griffon Quartet has been awarded a grant from the Green Bay Packers Foundation in support of its outreach work in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The group works in a range of programmes benefiting local residents including school-age children and people with disabilities.
