ALBERTO GIORDANO
(1773 ‘Cozio’ Guadagnini viola, page 38) is a violin maker based in Genoa, Italy, and assistant curator of the Guarneri ‘del Gesù’ violin known as ‘Il Cannone’. He is also a historian of Italian lutherie and graduated with a masters degree in history of art from the University of Genoa.
ANDREAS HUDELMAYER
(Making Matters, page 76) is a violin maker based in London. He concentrates on tonal adjustments and set-up alongside making violins, violas and cellos. His instruments are played by soloists and other professionals internationally.
STEFAN KRATTENMACHER
(In Focus, page 67) worked in London, Berlin and Melbourne before settling down in Münchweier, a small village in south-west Germany at the southern tip of the Black Forest. As well as making cellos and double basses, he plays the double bass and conducts the Ettenheim Chamber Orchestra.
ALUN THOMAS
(Alexander technique, page 44) studied the violin at the Royal Northern College of Music, becoming a co-principal with the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, later head of Alexander technique at Trinity Laban. Also a busy freelancer, recitalist and writer, he is a vociferous advocate for young people’s musical and psychophysical literacy.
JESÚS ALEJANDRO TORRES
(Copying the ‘Titian’, page 54) has a PhD in engineering and is an enthusiastic researcher of stringed musical instruments. He is currently in charge of the acoustics lab at the Violin Making School of Mexico.
JACQUELINE VANASSE
(Opinion, page 24) has recently completed a masters in Classical Music Business in London. As well as being a committed teacher, she is an enthusiastic interviewer and classical music administrator. She currently works with the English Chamber Orchestra and the LGT Young Soloists among other ensembles.
